Burkinshaw Ltd is the largest residential lettings
agent in the South East of England. They provide
10 branches throughout the South East along
with back office sites.
Originally, a UNIX environment
existed. MTB were asked to provide a Windows
platform to run alongside this, integrating
the two systems. The transition has gradually
been made to the Windows operating system, and
eventually the legacy systems will be entirely
superseded as the data held on them becomes
redundant.
The UNIX infrastructure involved
an expensive leased line system. MTB have provided
a solution to move the company from such an
uneconomical system, to a much more cost effective
solution involving ADSL and dedicated VPN connections.
The remote branches are entirely interconnected
allowing staff to hot desk from branch to branch
and still access their email and files in a
'roaming profile' manner.
MTB also provided a solution
for users to access their mail from home, abroad
or any location with internet access. As with
any of our customers, maximum uptime is one
of the most important factors that MTB deliver.
Over a long period some downtime is inevitable
due to system updates etc, however MTB have
provided Ashton Burkinshaw with a solution that
can distribute the Server load across multiple
sites thus reducing the Single Point of Failure,
and maximizing staff efficiency through availability.
